Exhibition Gallery Series
Galleries that are building community
The Exhibition Gallery Series is all about sharing new perspectives and building community in the process.
The Exhibition Gallery Series began during the Covid-19 pandemic when a group of urban planners wanted to connect and share photos through a virtual gallery. This was the start of Exhibition 1.0.
Over the course of five months, they met (virtually of course) and supported each other along the way as they developed and built out their gallery concepts. It was building community within to show a community on the outside during a time when much of the world was isolated from one another.
Exhibition 2.0 originated when a proposed arena in Philadelphia would have deeply impacted neighboring Chinatown. It was a contentious debate and process.
To bridge a gap of understanding why supporters of Chinatown were so passionate about preventing the arena from being built, Exhibition 2.0 was all about showing galleries of how Chinatown is home to the featured photographers. When others can see how it is a home to many in the neighborhood and beyond, perhaps their perspectives could change or at least be more understanding.
